In celebration of the 100th anniversary of Citizens' National Bank in 1990, the bank sponsored the publication of Macomb: A Pictorial History, written by John Hallwas. The Macomb story is told in great depth from the earliest times of settlement in the 1830s as part of the Military Tract of the War of 1812, which provided land grants to veterans of that war; to establishment of the town; and to the Civil War in 1865. The author covers business and cultural growth of the community up to 1990 with topics including the World Wars, politics, education, farming, industry, and the Depression years. As the title suggests, the book is extensively illustrated with period photographs, interesting advertisements, and other unique documents, which makes this a real pleasure to enjoy.
